FAB 50: St. Ignatius, Homestead crowned national champs
St. Ignatius (Ohio) went coast-to-coast as the FAB 50 No. 1 boys team.
Interestingly, the girls No. 1 started and ended in Indiana but switched hands as preseason No. 1 Noblesville ultimately gave way to final No. 1 Homestead.
For St. Ignatius, this Cleveland power has finished No. 1 in the last three seasons and six times since 2005. The only school with more No. 1 finishes is St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.), which finished No. 2 this season. The teams are planning to face each other in 2022 as these powerhouse programs are projected to start 1-2 next year, as well. St. Benedict’s and/or St. Ignatius have claimed every final No. 1 ranking going back to 2014 and all but one going back to 2010.
The national title for Homestead marked a first for the school but continued a strong national showing for Indiana. Three different Indiana programs have claimed FAB 50 No. 1 finishes over the past 11 seasons — Carmel in 2011, Penn in 2017, and now Homestead.
