Georgia, Illinois powers lead spring FAB 50s
When it comes to high school spring soccer, there are power states, then there is Georgia and Illinois.
Thirteen different Georgia high schools are represented between the boys and girls FAB 50s this week, highlighted by Harrison’s position as No. 1 in the boys rankings. Illinois, meanwhile, has 10 girls programs ranked in this week’s FAB 50. [Illinois boys play in the fall.] Topping the charts in the girls FAB 50 is Triad (Ill.), which is riding a 40-match win streak dating to 2019. Triad’s last loss was in the 2019 state semifinals, then the team won the consolation match. There was no high school soccer in 2020 for Triad due to the pandemic. Last year’s squad went 24-0-1 and this year’s team is off to a 14-0 start.

This will be the first “normal” FAB 50 since the 2019 spring. The 2020 rankings started in March of that year only to be halted by the pandemic when all play was shut down. There was no FAB 50 champion in 2020. Last year, after several states adjusted their seasons, Dalton (Ga.) boys and Westminster Schools (Ga.) finished atop a year-end-only FAB 50 ranking.
While Harrison (Ga.) tops the boys list, several Virginia teams are lining up for a possible run at No. 1. Yorktown (Va.), Langley (Va.) and Washington-Liberty (Va.) occupy the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 positions. Pasco (Wash.) checks in at No. 4. The girls Top 5 is heavy Illinois-Virginia with Briwar Woods (Va.) at No. 2, followed by Lyons (Ill.) at 3, South County (Va.) at 4, and Valor Christian (Colo.) at No. 5.
