One of the best parts about Dallas Cup is the cross-competition as teams from every league participate in the historic competition. In the knock-out games on Thursday, that cross-competition was a learning lesson for some teams as they experienced a different (and often difficult) style of play. Some teams stepped up to the challenge and adopted while others were sent packing early.
PrepSoccer was on hand at Moneygram for some of the games. Below are the players that stood out from Thursday’s games at Dallas Cup.
Jason Demery, Dallas Texans 08 – Demery made an impact in the second half. He nearly had an assist on a great cross that found a teammate in the box but the shot went just over the bar. Minutes later Demery did it himself with a terrific goal. The winger was difficult to contain in the attacking third.
Nicholas Castorena, Hawaii Rush 08 – Castorena was a standout for his ball mastery. He dribbled with tight control through defenders. Texans surrounded him with players but he still managed to get on the ball and get past the first defender. Tate Duax and Elijah Kuni were also standouts for Rush. Kuni looked like a defensive midfielder to know for the future.
Hudson Jacobs, OK Energy 08 – Jacobs scored the game-winner for Energy. He was the heart of the team in the victory over FC Dallas. He brought enthuasism and passion for his side through his play. He created some chances with his passing and got on the end of a cross with well-timed runs into the box. Chase Duke was also a standout for OK Energy.
Caleb Swann Caleb Swann M State #24 Nation TX , Solar SC 07 – Swann brings so much excitement to the game. He is electric on the ball and difficult to contain. He is an excellent dribbler, skilled passer, and capable finisher. He had a number of successful dribbles in the win over OK Energy. He is a name to know for the future.
Luke Munson Luke Munson D Lone Star | 2025 State #32 Nation TX , Solar SC 07 – Munson was my favorite center back of the day. His talent is obvious. His passing for a center back is already at an elite level, and the decisions he makes on the ball showcase his intelligence.
Kevin Rodriguez, FC Dallas 08 – Rodriguez had a couple of excellent tackles in the game against OK Energy. He timed his challenges well and used proper technique to shut down a couple of attacks from Energy. Erik Rosales was also a standout for FC Dallas.
Diego Wright, Crossfire 06 – Wright recorded the shutout in goal in Crossfire’s 1-0 win over DKSC on Thursday. The goalkeeper did well early when DKSC peppered the net with a few high shots. He covered the whole net and did well with the blocks Luke Derome and Sean Aounwere good at center back.
Diego Cruz, Allegiance FC 06 – Allegiance shocked Solar MLS Next on Thursday in the quarterfinal. The Texas team came out on the front foot and scored three goals in the opening half – and held on for a 3-2 win. Cruz was the captain of hte side. He showed good quality on the ball and had a savvy approach to the game. Adrian Gutierrez was also very good for Allegiance.
