This is a in-depth look at the players making an impact at the highest level right now in club soccer in California. This is a look at some of the players in the rankings from 30-10, which includes some of the best players in the country in the 2025 class.
As a freshman, Kyla Brakefield Kyla Brakefield 5’11” | D Troy | 2025 State CA was the Freeway League Defensive Player of the Year and Freeway League All-First Team while playing for Troy. At the club level, she has been a standout for Slammers. She is a center back who is very difficult to get past. She is strong in the tackle and covers ground quickly. She is one to watch this season at the club and high school level.
Highlights
Ellermeyer was a standout for San Diego Surf from the midfield. She was excellent at the ECNL National Event in Phoenix in the Spring. She is a clever passer and very impressive with her decision-making. The center midfielder caught the eye of the Youth National Team scouts as well as she was invited to the YNT Talent ID Center in Los Angeles this year. She is one of the bright spots of that talented Surf 07 ECNL team.
Pugh is a dominant force on the field. She is a forward for LA Breakers, and she is the type of player that makes you stop at her field and watch her play. The talent is obvious. She has the speed, skill, and strength to take over any game at the youth level. As soon as Pugh puts that together consistently, she will be an unstoppable force. She is already one of the best forwards in club soccer, but the potential for her to be even more next season is a very exciting possibility for scouts and her coaches.
Highlights
Oder had a breakout campaign with Oaks Christian, but the signs were there pretty early on that she was going to be one to watch prior to entering the high school varsity level. She was a star at the club level and found success on the state select teams as well. Oder is a dynamic attacking talent. She is difficult to mark as she has a quick-burst and does well in creating space with her change of pace. She earned the attention of Youth National Team scouts and was called up to the U.S. U15 Women’s Youth National Team – and a spot on the ECNL National Selection Team for the 06/07.
Kim is a fun player to watch play. She brings excitement and joy to the game. She is an attacking midfielder who is an excellent passer. She has a great first touch and is very comfortable on the ball. She is elusive on the dribble and does well with body feints to send defenders the wrong direction. While she is great on the pass, she is just as capable at finishing on her own. She has scored a number of spectacular goals during the club season. Kim has a very bright future.
Kailey Carlen Kailey Carlen GK State #119 Nation CA is the top ranked goalkeeper in the state. She is a well-rounded prospect for the position. Carlen is one of those players who just loves the game, and is always looking at ways to improve. She is excellent at distribution especially with her feet. She is comfortable playing out of the back. She is an excellent shot-stopper. She was a major reason why Albion won the Girls Academy National Championship in the 06 age group in 2022.
