Continue ReadingThe PrepSoccer Player Rankings for California for the class of 2025 were released on Monday. This is the first state list for the class of 2025 that PrepSoccer has released during this update. A handful of the key states will be unveiled before the national rankings are released later this year.
The start with California is the look at one of the deepest talent pools of any class in any state in the country. California’s class of 2025 have over 75 players in the ranking with dozens more on the watch list. Considering this is only a group of players rising into their sophomore campaigns at the school level, there are players with long list of accolades who are outside of the top 20 in this state rankings because the competition for those spots is so incredibly fierce.
Using the same philosophy from our national rankings, the rankings for the 2025 for California took into consideration which players were making an impact at the highest level right now, and which players project to be difference-makers at the next level.
While the 2024 class is just now starting to make verbal commitments, the class of 2025 feels like a distant target. However, many of the top programs have already identified targets from this group and California’s group is going to be under the spotlight for the next 10 months prior to the start of the communication between coach and recruit from the 2025 class.
The strength of this group is everywhere. There is top level talent – multiple players who are on the youth national teams in their respective age groups, and players who made the national Best XI from the national leagues, players who were part of National Training Camps for their respective organizations. However, the biggest asset of this class is the depth. The group of players outside of the currently ranked top dozen or so have so much potential that any of them making a big move up the list would not be a surprise. Plus, there are a number of candidates in the Watch List that PrepSoccer will be scouting this season as this list expands with each update.
Take an in-depth look at some of the players included in the California Girls 2025 Rankings from 50-77 in this rankings analysis.
Highlight Clip
It’s hard to imagine a player having a better freshman season than Penn had for Bishop Diego (Santa Barbara, California). The striker was the CIF-SS Division 7 Player of the Year after scoring 55 goals. The knock on Penn had little to do with her game, but more to do with her competition. She dominated the game, especially in the playoffs, but the level of the opponent was not the same as some of the other difference-makers on the list. Penn has made an impact against top competition as she plays for Eagles (Camarillo, California) in the ECNL. As she continues to improve her game to be a standout at that level as well, she will climb the state rankings.
Highlight Reel rnBolanos is an attacking midfielder who plays up an age group for LA Surf in the Girls Academy league. She is a technical player who is excellent on the ball and plays with a lot of energy. She is already taking on a big challenge playing up an age group and has found success against bigger competition. Bolanos is one to watch as she continues to develop her game and add more elements to make an impact at a high level.
Highlights
Highlight Reel rn Noe Johnson Noe Johnson M State CA is perhaps the player with the highest ceiling from anyone outside of the top 25. She is a center midfielder with the physical tools to be a four-star prospect in the future. She can dominate the game with physical attributes just as well as her soccer intelligence. Johnson is a player to watch this season as she looks to take her game to the next level.
Tsintikidou is a player who caught the eye of scouts during the ECNL National Events in the 2021/2022 season. She is a center back who is an excellent passer. She can play out of a pressure with ease as she has a comfort on the ball. She has great vision and usually plays to the correct foot to set her teammate up for success. She had a strong freshman campaign at the high school level and there is a lot of optimism about her sophomore season as she looks like one of the top defenders from San Diego from the class.
